How to practice
Proper practice is the key to the successful development of all basketball players. While playing time is earned in practice, the reason for practices is to develop as a player and contributing member of a team.
Good players do not view practice as a task or chore but rather an opportunity to improve one’s individual and team skills. Coaches spend a lot of time preparing practices and every part of practice is important. Show them respect and they, I turn will respect you.Practice Tips
• Be on time – that means 10-15 minutes before practice begins. Shoes tied and mentally focused to.
• Help your coaches – if your team has a pre-practice routine (stretching, ball handling, form shooting, etc.), don’t wait to be told, show initiative and start routine early if possible.
• Basketball players are often hindered by what they can’t do – work on your weak areas (off-hand, shooting, rebounding, communication, etc.) to become a more complete player.
• Play attention when a coach is talking – you listen with your ears and your eyes. Ask questions when you are not sure about the coaches’ directions or how the coach wants a drill to be run.
• Support your teammates by:
a) Encouraging them when things are going poorly
b) Compliment them when they do things well
c) Push then to play their best
