1. My child has never played basketball before. Can he/she still join Lakers?
Of course, we welcome first time players! Children make friends and have fun while gradually learning the game of basketball, developing their skills and understanding the value of teamwork in a safe and encouraging environment.
Lakers offers basketball programs for girls over the age of 5 and boys from ages 5 to 18.

Summer Programs (April 2024 – July 2024)
The Lakers Academy provides young players with fun activities designed to teach fundamental movement skills that are necessary for basketball players. The focus is on the FUNdamental skills, but also includes a Modified Games phase in which basketball is learned here through modified games such as 1-on-1, 2-on-2, etc. The program will have two one-hour sessions per week from October to March – one hour on a weekday evening at St. John Fisher Senior School and one hour on Saturday mornings at either St. John Fisher Senior School or John Rennie H.S.

This year the October-December period will be consist of fun activities designed to teach fundamental movement skills that are necessary for basketball players. The January-March period will consist of Modified Games in which basketball is learned here through modified games such as 3-on-3, 4-on-4, etc. The season will end with a jamboree.
For the Academy levels, players will have a 1 hour session on Saturday mornings and a 1 hour practice during the week. For all other categories, 1 game per weekend lasting approximately 80 minutes and 1 weekly practice of 60 minutes.
On the registration form, parents can request one evening which is not convenient for practice. Lakers will honour this request.
Parents can request, but there are no guarantees the league can accommodate such requests due to the size of our basketball programs.
Late October to end of March/April for all categories except Academy and late October to late February for Academy.
Yes. Lakers offers an intercity program for our Novice through Juvenile divisions. Please note, there is a greater time commitment required for practices and games for the intercity program.
$125 for Jr. NBA &, $290 for Lakers Academy, $325 for all other divisions, TBD for intercity players.
Yes. There will be a series of tryouts schedule in August. Those interested must register for the intercity program.
All house league (recreational) players receive a uniform which they keep. The youngest players (Jr. NBA, Lakers Academy players and Junior girls) also receive a basketball. (Please note the definition of uniform consists of a shirt and shorts for Lakers Academy, Junior Girls, Novice Boys and Mini Boys and a shirt only for Bantam division and older.)
Lakers relies on volunteers to serve as coaches, assistant coaches, division managers and administrators. Volunteers include parents, grandparents, relatives, older siblings, former players. We encourage you to be involved! The time commitment is minimal and Lakers provides training at the beginning and throughout the season.
Yes. The City of Pointe-Claire requires all its volunteers to undergo a police screening. Before the start of each season, Lakers organizes a day and time for all its volunteers to be screened.
